 What is a wetland and how do wetlands function in today’s world? Join us at the Rockport Art Assn and Museum to find the answers from Ingeborg Hegemann, a seasoned environmental consultant for wetlands assessment. She will answer those questions and more…like how plants and animals adapt to wetland conditions, what types of plants grow in a wetland, and the importance of wetlands in the world’s biodiversity.

Jennifer talks about her mission to encourage the use of plants that provide the greatest benefit to birds, mammals, insects and other critters that live in Cape Ann. She highlights native plants with high pollinator values that support wildlife in a sunny garden. She also covers various types of cultivars and whether they have a place in the native garden.

The Heirloom Gardener – Traditional Plants and Skills is John Forti’s newest  presentation.  It draws from his new book of traditional plants and  skills for the modern world.  Richly illustrated with period images and  contemporary woodcuts, his PowerPoint shares inspiration from our long  history of heirloom preservation, garden craft  and homestead lifeways.  Artisanal gardening lifestyles that are helping  us to rebuild vibrant local agricultural economies and celebrate  sustainable cottage industries that are contributing to our new,  homegrown American arts & crafts movement and backyard  environmentalism.  At a time when we could all use a little good news,  we hope you will join us for a refreshing look at how you can make a  difference and build habitat in your own backyard and community.

The Garden Club’s team of volunteers: Mary Korslund, Audry Truitt, Elvira Fulchino, Chris Klosterman and Yvonne Forte talk about the native plants that have been added to multiple beds around the library, the impact of native plants on the environment, and how bringing wildlife life back into our local gardens creates a counterbalance for climate change. 

 Explore the world of edimentals, vertical gardening, stumperies and other gardening practices for 2024 and beyond.  The Rockport Garden Club presents Gretchen Anderson. 

 The Rockport in Bloom Seaside Gardens Tour features many of our town’s inspirational seaside gardens.  Held on June 24th, 2023, our combination walking/driving tour should delight you with twelve special and lovingly tended gardens with beautiful coastal flower and plant installations. We hope you enjoy this tour of our lovely gardens! 

  Granite  in the Garden presented by Dave Araneo of Araneo Landworks. Dave will  be sharing examples of incorporating granite in outdoor living spaces  based on over 40 years of experience designing stone and water features,  walkways, stairways, stone paths, rainwater harvesting structures and  other creative drainage solutions. He has a deep respect for natural  landscapes and is passionate about reconnecting people with the outdoor  world.  

 "Fit To Garden" program encompasses taking care of our bodies as they age or have injuries. At any age, we can take care to prevent injuries, actually. During this program, we'll have some demonstrations of how to adapt your tools, to fit your newly adapted garden.  

   Rick  Roth, Executive Director of the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team, has had a  lifelong interest in wildlife especially reptiles and amphibians.    He explains about Cape Ann’s Vernal ponds and how they are critical wetland habitat for countless species.  

  The Trees, Trees, Trees! program is brought to us by Rockport Garden Club members -- Lois Muzio, Patty Hock, Nate Ives and Nick Anderson.  

  The State of the Coast report details many of the coastal challenges  being faced by 13 coastal zone communities on the North Shore, as well  as potential adaptation methods for the future. Sea level rise and storm  surge impacts, erosion potential, and saltmarsh migration and  restoration will be discussed. 

 Listen and see the details about the Seed Library Program for this year  as well as helpful information about planting, getting your soil ready,  watering, and other basic aspects of gardening from the Rockport Garden  Club.   Presented by Lizzy Fotouhi.

Anna Fialkoff shares her own observations and practices from her experience as an ecological horticulturist and designer. 

 Martha Gach  discusses trees and their climate benefits, and some New England species and strategies for using them in the landscape.  

 Doug Tallamy shows us new ways to choose beautiful native plants that will benefit our local ecosystems.  He reveals important planting relationships and how they affect biodiversity.  July 12, 2021 

 Kate speaks about Greenbelt's mission and history in the region, highlighting several Cape Ann conservation successes. She discusses the importance of land conservation for public health, water supply, and ecosystem function. 

Join us for a presentation by Nick Anderson in which he discusses some  principles of ecological horticulture and the advantages of using well  matched native plants in our gardens. He will also talk about the ways  in which wild areas of Cape Ann can both inform and inspire our  approaches to gardening at home. Rockport Garden Club, Feb. 1st, 2021 

 The Rockport Garden Club welcomed Herbalist Betsy Williams to address  members.  Betsy shared her special herb recipes which can make tasty and  festive holiday gifts. 

 Eileen Saunders presents a simple, yet elegant. door decoration and a  dining table arrangement that can transform into a larger mantle  decoration with just a few creative additions. 

 Suzanne Mahler presents, "Native Plants vs. Invasive Species."  Suzanne  shares her personal experiences with all the dastardly invasive plants  that may show up in your garden and provides strategies to eliminate  them.

 Rockport Garden Club's annual garden tour of 13 private gardens held on  July 26-27, 2019.  Rockport in Bloom showcased lovely gardens with plein  air artists, ocean vistas, as well as sculptures and artwork.  Garden  Tour proceeds go to many philanthropic and local endeavors; such as  Rockport High School scholarships, Open Door Pantry and town  beautification projects.
