To the Editor of the Gloucester Daily Times:
I’m writing today to congratulate Peter Noonan and the staff at the Old Farm in Rockport on their 10th anniversary. I’d especially ike to recognize Leslie Doig who runs the Flower Buds Program. She conceived of, and launched this innovative community service back in the spring of 2021. The Rockport Garden Club was impressed with Leslie’s ideas and was proud to award a $5,000 community grant to help construct the cutting gardens and to initiate the program.
Each week, Leslie and Old Farm Rockport residents (brain-injury survivors), Flower Bud assistants and volunteers assemble simple posies and deliver them for free to unsuspecting recipients, many of whom are also suffering from isolation and loneliness.
Members of the Cape Ann community are invited to nominate recipients in multiple ways described on Old Farm’s website: http://www.supportivelivinginc.org/FlowerBuds.
Once again, a hearty congratulations to all.
