ROCKPORT GARDEN CLUB

ROCKPORT GARDEN CLUB ROCKPORT GARDEN CLUB ROCKPORT GARDEN CLUB

The 3rd Rain Barrel Distribution Program: This is the 3rd consecutive year of running this program and the first to have snow on delivery day. We distributed 123 rain barrels and the accessories needed to fully use them. We had 11 volunteers who helped organize the distribution of the barrels. We were able to work in conjunction with the Town of Rockport DPW and got help with unloading pallets of rain barrels delivered by The Great American Rain Barrel Company.

We will continue to share both environmental concerns and helpful possible solutions with club members as we discover them.

Going forward and looking at next year, our focus is going to be not so much on initiatives but dissemination of information in a quarterly newsletter format with topics such as tips for sustainable living; lawn vs. meadow yards; planting of more trees; balancing the planting of native vs. non-native gardens; Black Earth recycling and food composting; planting gardens that encourage pollinators; avoidance of garden pesticides; and more.

Respectfully submitted by,

Kathy Lieser, Chair

on behalf of the Environmental Committee: Peggy Coonley, Liz Fragola, Cynthia Johnson, Lois Muzio, Shubhra Ramchandani, Lisa Simms, Karen Wise.
